Who bravely dares must sometimes risk a fall. -- Tobias G. Smollett

A Message From Your 2009-10 President
DuWayne Greene
My fellow Meetings Industry Professionals!
The past few months have been a time of reflection and soul searching for myself and for many in our industry. These reflections have centered on past successes, high points, low points, missteps and decisions that have been great and some that could have been better.
In each instance I’ve come to realize that with each step or decision that has been made there has been a “movement” involved. A movement that has propelled us forward into unknown territory or a movement that has caused us to take a step back and reevaluate why we have done certain things or maybe haven’t done them. In both instances, where movement is involved, we have done just that…..we’ve moved!
We have not stayed stagnant or complacent but have engaged ourselves….we’ve shifted into a higher gear and realized that we can’t just coast through business or life and expect different results from doing the same old thing the same old way.
In fact, Benjamin Franklin said that "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." Many of us have been accused of being “insane” at times for being in this crazy Industry in the first place, but as insane as it may be at times, it is an insanity that has become a part of what we are, of our very nature, of what makes us special!
It is my fervent wish and desire that you join me this year on an adventure of discovery, of unleashing the inner creative beast, of forgetting the borders and limitations that we’ve placed around or upon ourselves that, even though they offer a safety factor, are in fact the very things that keep us from moving beyond what we think is possible and open up an entire universe of possibilities! Shift it into a higher gear and hold on tight! It might be a bumpy ride but I guarantee it will be a ride nonetheless!!!
Go ahead…..I DARE YOU!!!
DuWayne
